In 1859 included the legations of Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì and Ravenna had belonged to the Papal States from which it had fallen off June 12, 1859 after the departure of the Austrian troops. In 1860 it was proclaimed the annexation to the Kingdom of Vittorio Emanuele II.
