In 1852 the Duchy of Parma included the territories of Parma, Piacenza and Parma Lunigiana. The king was Charles III of Bourbon until the establishment of the Provisional Government in 1859 which led in 1860 to the plebiscite and subsequent annexation to the Kingdom of Vittorio Emanuele II.
